Red Spice Road is just next to Guhng. It's my friend's birthday so we came here to celebrate and also to enjoy some good food.
Our dinner was quite late as we made last minute reservation. Even at late hours, the place was still crowded.
The place is slightly dimmed with unique seating.
There is a bar here as well with red lighthings. Had a hard time trying to take pictures.
Lamb Ribs with Chili Salt, Cumin and Coriander @ $14.50 AUD |
Deep-fried Lamb Ribs spiced with Chili Salt and Cumin; Garnished with Coriander. Meat was crispy from the outside and succulent from the inside. Every bite was tasty. The spices gave a nice kick to it. Was slightly oily though.
Watercress, Mushroom, Shallot, Carrot, Tomato, Herbs, Lemongrass & Lime Leaf Salad @ $26 AUD |
Fresh salad to balance up the heavily flavored meals. Dressing was tangy and appetizing.
Rice Noodles Stir-Fried with Oyster Mushrooms, Snowpeas, Gailan, Crushed Cashews & Green Onion @ $27 AUD |
A fusion of Thai and Asian Char Kway Teow. Strongly flavored but was lacking the Wok Hei which you normally get from this dish. Decent but not great.
Khmer Duck Curry with Pumpkin & Sweet Potato @ $36 AUD |
Curry was slightly bland and Duck was slightly burned. Love the Pumpkin and Sweet Potato though as the Curry gave a unique blend of taste.
Lamb Shoulder Slow Roasted with Massaman Curry Paste @ $69 AUD |
A must try dish!! Biggest Lamb dish I ever seen. When I said big I wasn't exaggerating. Lamb Shoulder was slowly cooked to perfection. The meat was tender and succulent. The sauce was not strongly flavored compared to other dishes which I would say its much better as you get enjoy the meat texture. Gather about 4 people to try dish as you might have trouble to finish it.
Pork Belly, Apple Slaw, Chili Caramel & Black Vinegar @ $34 AUD |
Red Spice Road signature dish. Another must try dish. Deep-fried Pork Belly with Apple Slaw as toppings. Black Vinegar was given on the side but I would say the dish was sufficient without the vinegar. Pork Belly was heavily marinated so every bite was full of flavor. The meat was crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. Was slightly fried too long but still a great dish.
Lychee Jam Filled Doughnuts with Coconut Ice-Cream @ $14 AUD |
Now the desserts. Doughnut was filled with Lychee Jam and slightly sprinkled with Chili sauce. Served with Coconut Ice-Cream. Doughnut was complemented by the Ice-cream and the chili sauce gave a nice kick to it.
Lemongrass Panna Cotta, Mango Marshmallow, Watermelon Jelly and Peanut Praline @ $14 AUD |
Panna Cotta tasted odd as it had Lemongrass with it. Texture was perfect but the Lemongrass has overpowered the sweetness which made this dessert not likable.
Verdict (Highest-10)
Food: 8 (Strongly flavored fusion food. A blend of South East Asia Cuisine)
Service: 6 (Staffs were friendly but everyone seems to be in a rush.)
Ambiance: 7 (Sat nearby the bar which has red lighting. Would prefer other seats.)
Overall: 8 (Would definitely come back to try other dishes.)
Price: $26-38 AUD per main
