Mee Jawa @ PJ SS2/4A ★★★ $

Mee Jawa @ RM 4 (Small) & RM 4.50 (Big)

Malaysia has always been popular with cheap and delicious hawker food. There is just one located at Alisan (known to the locals) which is recently getting more attention not only from the locals but from the media as well. This particular open air stall is famous for their Kedah Asam Laksa but the main purpose my visit here was for their Mee Jawa. Came to know of this place from my mum's good friend as she highly recommended this place.

Teoh Chew Chai Kuih [Top] & Guan Chang Kuih [Bottom] @ RM 0.70/each

The Chai Kuih which can also been known as Crystal Dumplings are filled with radish. The one with green spots has additional chives. Both Kuih have a soft and thin layer. A tasty savoury snack. As for the Guan Chang, there is a choice of fried or steamed ones. It had a starchy texture to it which is probably a mix of glutinous rice and some flour. Another tasty savoury snack which can be eaten by itself with no additional sauce.
Teoh Chew Mee Diao @ RM 1.90 (Small) & RM 2.50 (Big)
The Mee Diao is similar to a stir-fry noodle but with less oil. A purely vegetarian dish. The thick vermicelli came with a garlic-herb liked paste which was very appetizing and worked really well with the dish.
Kedah Asam Laksa RM 4 (Small) & RM 4.50 (Big)
Had many other Asam Laksa before but this this was my first time trying Kedah Asam Laksa. It came with thick rice noodle, wax meat, cucumber strips, shrimp paste, onions and lime. The fish based soup had a creamier texture compared to the usual ones. Taste was less sour and less tasty as well. Actually found it not bad but its definitely something different from what you normally get from the usual Asam Laksa.
Mee Jawa @ RM 4 (Small) & RM 4.50 (Big)
Mee Jawa came with fried fritters, tofu, crushed peanuts and noodles on gravy. Gravy actually tasted average by itself but after adding in the sambal it was delicious. The sambal brought out the fragrance of the dish and gave an extra kick to the gravy. The thin crispy fritters greatly complemented the dish as well. A must try!!
Sambal

Mak Chuk [Left] @ RM 1.30 & Red Bean Soup [Right] @ RM 1.30
The desserts were actually pretty good. Mak Chuk which is actually Barley Wheat was soothing and the sweetness was just nice. Red Bean was not bad as well which was the more diluted kind of Red Bean soup. Sweetness was just nice as well.
Verdict (Highest-10)
Food: 8 (This stall is famous for its Asam Laksa but honestly I actually preferred the Mee Jawa.)
Service: (There will be a long queue)
Ambiance:  (The stall is on the street so I guess there is not much to talk about ambiance)
Overall: 8 (For the price its a must go. Not only cheap but tasted great as well.)

Price: RM 0.70 - 4.50 per main

  1. Wow Raymond! This place is good isn't it? At least the bang per buck! Hehehe it's actually just outside my house :P! My favourites would have to be the Mak Cuk, The vegetarian fried noodles with that special sambal as well as the mee jawa with extra fried crisps! DELISH!!!! :)
