My Elephant @ Section 17 ★★★★ $$$

Plah Nung Manow @ RM 45

Malaysia has numerous Thai restaurants and My Elephant is definitely one of the good ones. It is getting popular in Petaling Jaya as they have a 2nd branch which is located just at Hartamas. However, looking for this place was rather difficult, especially at night as we were surprised to find it just below the flats of Happy Mansion. There can be doubts for first timers as the surroundings are rather dodgy but the silly thing is that good food in Malaysia are normally in dodgy areas.

Miaeng Kum @ RM 12
Daun Kadok Wraps with Coconut Crisps, Peanuts, Dried Shrimp and Assorted Condiments topped with Sweet & Sour Tamarind-Plum sauce. The Daun Kadok had a leaf like texture with a unique bitter taste to it. I would say that eating this leaf is an acquired taste. However, if you do like it the ingredients greatly complements the Daun Kadok.
My Elephant's Platter @ RM 22
Platter came with Deep Fried Thai Fish Cakes, Deep Fried Hand-Rolled Springrolls, Prawn Wantons & Fresh Popiahs served with My Elephant's Signature Chilli Sauce. All the snack bites except the popiah were crispy and tasty. Springrolls were filled with Glass Noodle, Dried Shrimp and assorted vegetables. Popiahs were a combination of Shrimps, Lettuce, Carrots, Rice Noodle Sticks and Thai Herbs wrapped in Rice Paper. The Chilli sauce was a great complement to the dish.
Khai Jiao Ho Mok @ RM 15
Special Egg Omelette with Fish Otak-otak. This dish was fragrant and savoury with a balanced amount of ingredients. The sour chilli sauce was a great complement to the dish as it gave an extra kick to it. However, couldn't taste much of the Otak-Otak. Was there even any Otak-otak in it?
Jungle Vegetable of the day (Paku - Fern Tips) @ RM 15
Stir-fry Paku with garlic. Perfectly cooked dish with fragrant garlic aroma. The Pakus were crunchy and it had a mild spiciness to it.
Gai Tod Gratiam Prik Thai @ RM 15
My Elephant's Special Deep Fried Chicken Strips with Kaffir Lime Leaf, Garlic and crushed Thai Peppercone. Chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The spices and seasoning for this dish was amazing as it had a tasty savoury taste. It had a mild sourness and fragrant peppery taste to it.
Plah Nung Manow @ RM 45
Steamed Fish with My Elephant's Signature Lime-Garlic-Chilli Padi Dressing. Dressing had an exotic taste to it which was appetizing. Mild Spicy, mild sour and tangy. Fish smelled great as there was no fishy or muddy smell to it. It had a soft medium flake texture but was slightly overcooked.
Plah Meuk Yaeng @ RM 21
Pan-seared Squid marinated in Thai Soya Sauce. As what they claimed, simple yet tasty. Mild spicy and savoury marinade.
Tom Som Fish @ RM 30 (Large)
Their best selling soup which is prepared with Galangal, Lemongrass and Lime soup with Thai Herbs. Soup was clear with a sourish touch to it and very appetizing. Take it as a non-spicy Tom Yam soup. Fish was recommended for this dish and they were right. The fish was cooked just nice with a soft medium flake texture.
Gaeng Keow Wan (Chicken) @ RM 23 (Large)
Thai Green Curry cooked in My Elephant style. Curry was absolutely delicious. Curry was not too rich nor creamy. It was even drinkable without rice but when eaten with rice, the taste can be lacking. The ingredients given were abundant. Chicken was nicely sliced and the meat was tender. Careful of those green pea-like vegetable as it is not peas but in fact baby eggplants. Some may not like it as it was rather bitter.
Sour Sop Cooler [Left] @ RM 6.5, Lychee Jasmine Smoothie [Middle] @ RM 6.5, Red Season [Right] @  RM 8
Drinks were awesome. Nothing to complain about. As for the Red Season, it was a blend of Watermelon and Mint Leaf. All the drinks were pleasantly sweet and refreshing.

Verdict (Highest-10)
Food: 8 (Very good Thai food. This is definitely a keeper.)
Service: 7 (Good service and friendly staffs. Food came out pretty quick)
Ambiance: 7.5 (Before entering, the surrounding can be a bit dodgy but the inside is a different story. Great place to enjoy a dinner.)
Overall: 8 (A must go if you are looking for good Thai Food.)

Price: RM 10 - 50 per main

  1. Haha I've actually been here before. Mom was terribly upset that the waiters were not able to communicate with us well enough @@! This place was supposedly all hype for its roast duck curry which turned out quite ordinary in the end! Nevertheless, quite a unique place compared to other Thai places in town!

  2. Cool!! It was my first time there actually. Didn't get to try the duck curry though. Yea I find it quite different from the usual Thai food that I normally have. Definitely not the best but it provides something different.
