Spicy Cumin pork Ribs @ $21.80 AUD |
This restaurant is within one of the alleys in China Town. The walkway is a little dodgy but many still come here for some Szechuan food. This place used to be my favourite place whenever I am looking for cheap and tasty Szechuan food. It was previously leased by Dainty Sichuan. However, Sichuan House has taken over and I'm here to find out whether its as good as the old one.
Golden Sand Prawns with Vegetables @ $22.80 AUD |
Deep fried Prawns and Pumpkin coated with shrimp roes. Was expecting this dish to be salty and fragrant but it turned out rather bland. The surface has a sandy texture so some people might not like it. The texture didn't really matter to me, its just that this dish is not as tasty as it looks.
Kongpao Chicken @ $19.80 AUD |
Chicken pieces cooked with dried chilli, peanut, spring onion and garlic with some sweet savoury sauce. Different from the ones that you get in Malaysia. Tasty and the meats were tender.
Spicy Cumin Pork Ribs @ $21.80 AUD |
Deep-fried Pork Ribs with chili flakes, spring onions and cumin sprinkled with sesame seeds. The first time I tried it here, it wasn't that good but this time it was much better. Tastier. Crispy with lots of savoury spices. The meat was also tender and juicy. The ribs had some light minty taste to it coming from the cumin and heavy in taste and was also spicy. One of their popular dishes.
Fish slices & Vegetables in pickled vegetable soup @ $26.80 AUD |
Fish slices and bean sprouts in pickled vegetable soup. Soup had a sour taste to it. Lacked in fragrance. The one from Spice 9 Girl is much better.
Dry Stir-fried Beans with Minced Pork @ $15.80 AUD |
Stir-fried beans with garlic and minced pork. Beans were a little overcooked. It was a bit soggy. Lacked of fragrance. The one from Dainty Sichuan is much better.
Chinese Broccoli with Oyster sauce @ $13.80 AUD |
Boiled Chinese Broccoli topped with Oyster sauce. Veg was crunchy but other than that there was nothing special.
Hot & Spicy Diced Chicken Fillets & Wild Mushrooms in Mini Wok @ $23.80 AUD |
Fried Chicken fillets with dried wild mushrooms, dried chillies and capsicums. Chicken had a light crisp on it. This dish was slightly sweet and savoury and also slightly spicy.
Marinated Fish Slices & Vegetables in Boiling Vegetable Oil @ $32.80 AUD |
Marinated fish slices, dried chillies, pepper balls and bean sprouts in vegetable oil. When the dish was first served, we were shocked as it looked really spicy and how we gonna eat that. Later then we know, the dried chillies were scooped out by the waiter. Fish had a starchy layer. That layer was quite salty. Be careful of the pepper balls though as it has some numbing effect.
Verdict (Highest-10)
Food: 6.5 (Compared to Dainty Sichuan, Sichuan house is definitely lacking in quality. Food here is quite inconsistent. Portions are big though.)
Service: 5 (Food came quick.)
Ambiance: 6 (Can be a little stuffy due to the spicy aroma. They have lots of tables and big round ones to accommodate more people.)
Overall: 6.5 (Food is not too bad. Would definitely give it a try once in a while.)
Price: $25 AUD average per main

Sadly the food didn't quite meet your standards! I was actually hungry when i saw the salted egg prawns as well as the ribs! They look delish! :)
