Kake Di Hatti ★★ $$

Kake di Hatti has been around for quite some time and seem to be a local favourite for many years. This can be understood as they serve Northern Indian food at cheap prices. In comparison to Southern Indian Cuisine which uses oil and cream as a cooking base, Northern Indian Cuisine is a healthier choice as they use water instead. As a result, their curries are also less heavy in taste as well.

Naan [Top] @ $1.40 AUD & Garlic Naan [Bottom] @ $1.70 AUD

Oven-baked flatbread. There are 6 different choices of Naan. Each with different spices to it. Naan is just a plain flatbread and as for Garlic Naan it is topped with crushed garlic. The Naan has a soft and dense texture with a light crisp on the exterior.

Lamb Piatala @ $9.99 AUD

Famous dish that used to be prepared especially for the royal family of Patiala. Lamb was soft and tender but the sauce was a little too salty. This dish was also moderately spicy and heavy in taste.

Chicken Makhani @ $9.99 AUD

Butter Chicken Sauce is a specialty of Northern Inidia cooked with butter, cream, spices and fresh tomatoes. Sweet and savoury. Chicken was also tender. This dish was not bad. Probably the best compared to the rest.

Vegetables Saag @ $9.99 AUD

Creamy butter spinach cooked in country style. Would expect more of a spinach taste but this dish was creamy and salty.

Vegetabke Biryani @ $7.99 AUD

Seasonal vegetables cooked in spices and rice. Rice was a little dry when came. The lacked of moisture couldn't bring out the flavour and fragrance of the dish. Was a lot better the last time I've tried it.

Verdict

Food: 6 (Food was cheap. Wouldn't say its good or bad. Just average. Some can be a little too salty. There are definitely better ones elsewhere. One in particular I would say is Namaste at Lygon.)

Service: 5 (Service was average. The staffs lacked enthusiasm. )

Ambiance: 6 (Clean but the seating can be a bit packed. The place can be a little gloomy as well.)

Overall: 6 (The food was a lot better last time. Definitely dropped of quality. Would consider to come back if there is improvement.)
