The Ming Room (城酒家) @ BSC ★★★ $$$

Chicken with Mango Cubes Pie @ RM 6

Ming Room is one of those Chinese restaurant offering fine dining experience at reasonable prices. It has been around for quite some time and is well known in BSC. They offer not only traditional Dim Sum but Dim Sum with a modern touch to it.

Stir-Fried Radish Cake @ RM 6

Stir-fried Radish Cake with beansprouts, egg and chives. Radish cake had a slight crisp on the outside and a soft starchy mouthfeel on the inside. This dish was not bad but definitely had better ones.
Chicken with Mango Cubes Pie @ RM 6
The Pie had a light and flaky top-crust and a slightly dense crust on the sides. The pie's flaky texture was great. As for the filling, there is chicken and mango cubes with a creamy savoury sauce. There was also a hint of sweetness which came from the mango. The pie was rather ordinary though as the fillings taste was not prominent.
Steamed Cheong Fun with Crispy Prawn @ RM 10
Crispy Prawn wrapped with steamed Cheong Fun on sweet soy sauce. Cheong Fun is basically rice noodle roll which is commonly used in a variety of dim sum. The prawns were fried till it had a wonderful crispy and crunchy texture. As for the Cheong Fun, the thin and soft layer of roll worked really well with the prawn which gave a soft yet crispy texture. The sweet soy sauce was another plus point as it greatly complemented the dish and the taste was not overpowering.
Deep-Fried Yam Puff @ RM 6
Deep fried Yam Puff stuffed with meat. The dumpling had a crispy and puffy crust filled with light and creamy yam layer in between the crust and the meat. Yam was tasty and moist with a hint of pepper to it and it worked really well with the meat. The meat was also tasty which had a BBQ sauce flavour to it.
Pan-Fried Cod Fish with Special Sauce @ RM 12
Pan-fried Cod Fish topped with a sauce which I find it very similar to a Thai sauce. The sauce had a balance of sweet and sour with a very light spicy and salty taste to it. Cod Fish was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The batter used can be a little too thick as the fish was hardly noticeable.
Cod Fish Roll with Cashew Nut @ RM 8
Crispy Cod Fish Roll sprinkled with Cashew Nuts and white sauce. The roll was tasty with the sweet savoury white sauce which was very similar to mayo. The crispy layer had an airy and crunchy texture which was great as a snack bite.
Steamed BBQ Meat Bun @ RM 6
Fluffy steamed bun with sweet savoury BBQ pork fillings. The bun's texture was just nice with the right fluffiness and moisture. The filling has pork cooked with thick BBQ sauce. The sauce was a let down though as it was not as tasty as it should be.
Pork Ribs with Black Bean @ RM 6
Steamed Pork Ribs with Black Bean. This dim sum was rather oily. The Pork Ribs had a starchy layer which was not appetizing. There was also very little black beans. Definitely had better ones elsewhere.
Siew Mai @ RM 7
Siew Mai is basically chinese pork and shrimp dumpling. Minced pork and minced shrimp is mixed with other ingredients and then wrapped with wonton skin. Siew Mai was just alright. The fillings were rather tough and didn't have the juicy succulent meat texture.
Steamed Rice with Salted Egg & Meat Cake @ RM 28
Steamed rice is covered with a layer of minced pork. The salted egg was not prominent in this dish. The whole dish tasted rather bland and the meat was rather dry.
Mixed BBQ Platter (2 Combinations) @ RM 30
The mixed BBQ platter was suppose to come with BBQ Pork and Roast Pork but they ran out of Roast Pork so Tofu and some cold side dishes were given instead. BBQ Pork which is glazed with honey was delicious with its sweet savoury taste. The meat was also soft and tender. Tofu was silky smooth and cold.
Braised Egg Noodle Village Style @ RM 24
This dish is also known as Mee Pok which is served with a dry based sauce. The Noodles were excellent as it was smooth and springy with a chewy like consistency. The dry sauce greatly complemented the noodles as it was really appetizing and you would definitely ask for more.

Verdict (Highest-10)
Food: 7 (Certain common dim sums such as Siew Mai and Har Kau tasted rather average. As what a Malaysian would say "so-so" la. Nothing great and also not too bad. However, the special dim sums here were pretty good. They did a pretty good job with their fusion dim sums.)
Service: 7.5 (The waiter and waitress were always busy but service was still quick. Even in a huge crowd, the tea were always refilled quickly.)
Ambiance: 8 (Restaurant was definitely clean. Traditional red chinese theme with a modern touch to it.)
Overall: 7.5 (Great place to come with your family. You would expect more with the price you are paying for. Cooked dishes here seems to be quite promising. Will probably come here to try out their cooked dishes. )

Price: RM 6 - 16 per dish
