Marmite Chicken @ $16 AUD |
Finally, we landed safely at Perth. After four hours of flight all of us were starving so we had Malaysian food for supper. Hawker's Cuisine is popular among the locals and was highly recommended by my friend.
Sambal Kang Kong @ $14.80 AUD |
Stir Fried Kang Kong (Water Spinach) with their homemade Sambal sauce. Kang Kong was perfectly cooked and you can tell it was fresh as it was crunchy. Sambal sauce had a mixture of spicy, sour, salty and slightly sweet taste to it. Very well balanced dish as the right amount of Sambal was used. A must order!!
Fuzhou Tofu @ $15.80 AUD |
Deep fried homemade Tofu topped with minced Pork, Chu Yau Char (Fried Pork Fat) and preserved Radish sauce. Tofu was soft and silky. Japanese Tofu (Egg Tofu) was used for this dish hence the tofu was much tastier. Complemented by the gravy which was creamy and salty. Chu Yau Char was added to this dish which brought out the fragrance of the whole dish.
Marmite Chicken @ $16 AUD |
Fried Boneless Chicken pieces in their chef's special Marmite sauce. Chicken had a slight crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. Had a mild salty and savoury taste to it. Could have been better if more Marmite is used.
Pork Belly with Salted Fish @ $16 AUD |
Thinly sliced Pork Belly stir fried with salted Fish, dried Chili & Onion. Pork was soft and tender. Sauce was salty and savoury. Pretty good but the sauce was lacking in fragrance. It was also missing the most important essence of the dish which was the Wok Hei. Could have been better if a clay pot was used.
Verdict (Highest-10)
Food: 7.5 (A pretty good Malaysian restaurant. Much better than the ones from Melbourne. The Sambal Kang Kong and Fuzhou Tofu were my favourites.)
Service: 6 (The dish came out pretty slow even when the crowd wasn't big. Guess the chef was tired.)
Ambiance: 7 (Neat and inviting atmosphere.)
Overall: 8 (A must go if you are looking for Malaysian food in Perth.)
Price: $12.80-18.80 AUD per main

Great post. I have to agree about the Kangkung Belacan that night. It is a regular favourite on the table. Add an extra request for belacan and chilli, and BAM! Automatic win.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, the bean curd dish is something I was never exposed to until I reached Perth 7 years ago. Ever since then, it has always been on the order whenever I was there.
Yea, such a great find. Would love to visit Perth again.
